Hollowcore Flooring 4,000m2 (200mm) | Stair Units
The construction of a 50,000 sq ft science park facility at Fort George in Derry~Londonderry within a 12-month period required precast flooring products and staircase units that could be quickly and efficiently installed to get the £12 million project delivered on time.
The finished building aims to house specialists in software, telecoms, digital media, health and bioscience, clean tech and television production, among many others.
For a project that champions new technology, it was fitting that AG’s Prestressed Hollowcore floor units and Precast Stairs were chosen in the construction of the North West Regional Science Park (NWRSP).
The sheer scale of the job saw 4,000m2 of 200mm Prestressed Hollowcore laid on four levels of the new building. Not only can this product be quickly and efficiently installed, but AG Hollowcore floor units have a high resistance to both impact and airborne sound transmission and contribute to satisfying the latest building regulations.
Furthermore, AG Prestressed Hollowcore floor units have a minimum 1-hour fire rating. In addition to the flooring, AG’s precast staircases were employed for use in the construction. Concrete stairs offer a fast, efficient and cost-effective option, reducing labour on site, being fast to install and providing immediate access to all floor areas.
AG’s precast staircases offer flexible configurations, with the ability to make custom-built moulds that can accommodate a wide variety of staircase configurations and designs. More importantly for this project, the precast staircases boast ease of programming manufactured off-site and delivered and installed to meet any build programme.
The North West Regional Science Park opened to much fanfare in September 2014 and it is hoped that it will help build and attract the hi-tech companies required to provide high value employment for the region’s talented young people.
“Being able to deliver so much product within the short time scale was a real challenge but we showed that AG has the capacity to successfully achieve this. We also proved how flexible we can be on a large project such as this - and it is testament to the qualities of the precast products that we were able to prepare and meet the main contractor’s requirements to have our work completed on time during the various stages on- site. Suffice to say, that the main contractor was very pleased with the results.”
